Before learning that let us see how this works:
While a copying file  to your file system,  it will copy the entire data, and it takes much time depending on the file size. But, if you are deleting a file from your file system,  it will be deleted immediately regardless of the file size. So, what it means?

It just deletes the file from your file system table (NTFS/FAT etc.).  But the actual data remains on the disc until it is overwritten by a new file. Thus, we can recover the file before it gets overwritten by a new file.
